Food Chain Exhibit

Grade 3s and 4s joined hands in organising this exhibit which was attended by students from Early Years to Grade 6.

This gave the children a creative way to present and explain how food chain happens. Some of them decided to come up with a video, some with puppet shows, and others.

Relationships of Organisms

This week, Grade 4s explored the types of relationships organisms show in an ecosystem. They worked on finding out about the following: COMPETITION, PREDATION, COMMENSALISM, PARASITISM AND MUTUALISM. After researching about them, they shared their findings to the whole class.

Family Hike up Nunobiki Waterfalls

Our family hike has been rescheduled to Saturday 5 October.

Grades 3 & 4 would again like to invite all learners, parents and families to join us on this hike up Nunobiki Waterfalls!

09:00 - 13:00.

We are again asking all families who plan to attend on the 5th to complete this form so we can have an accurate idea of updated numbers.

The following information is a repost:
Grade 3 & 4 have been exploring ecosystems in their unit on Sharing the Planet. We have specifically been looking into producers, consumers and decomposers

We hope that this family event will give parents a unique opportunity to gain insight into our learning in a beautiful forested setting. We hope the environment will catylize discussion as learners are prompted to relate their understanding of ecosystems to what they notice around them.

DSKI learners may attend alone (please adhere to 09:00 drop-off / 13:00 pickup times) however we look forward to having parents, siblings and friends join us!

Ms. J and Mr. Justin will be waiting outside Shin-Kobe station (near the busses) from 9am [a picture of the meeting spot is also attached].

We will depart at 9:20am.

The hike is roughly 2.5hrs round trip + 1hr for lunch at the top. Total distance is around 6 - 7km although some it this is uphill.
A vending machine is available about half way up.
Please bring: water bottles, hats, sunscreen and a packed lunch for everyone in your party. We have some picnic mats but you may also want to bring your own.

Field trip to Nunobiki Falls

Dear Grade 3 & 4 families,

After monitoring the weather via a number of sources, we feel certain there will be rains tomorrow.
This poses an issue to the safety and comfort of our hikers as the terrain can become unsteady in rainy weather conditions.

Bad weather will also dampen our ability to take notes and to enjoy our lunch in the uncovered area.

In light of this we have made a collective decision to postpone the hike until Saturday 5th October 2019. Please see the class blogs next week for more on this.

We thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter, we know many families made special arrangements in order to attend. We hope you will be able to join us on the 5th!

Many thanks,

Mr. Justin & Ms. J

Finding Places

As we are reading Kensuke's Kingdom in the class, we searched for places visited by the main character in the story. It was quite a challenge! :)

Paint-Me-A-Picture

As part of our drama acting workshop, Grade 4s showed their skill in acting. They acted out scenes without using any WORD and they used their body as props too. It was fun! Didn't know that Grade 4s can be future actors and actresses on stage! :)

How to be an EXPERT

Food chains and food webs seem simple but truly are complicated to explain. To deepen their understanding about food chains and food webs, Grade 4s need to be an expert resource of information. They will explain to younger members of the school community what food chains and food webs are. To do this, they need to collect facts and explore different means to share their understanding. good luck Grade 4s!

NUMBER SENSE

How do we make sense of a number? This can be done in a variety of ways and Grade 4s showed it. They used their prior knowledge on mathematical operations and came out with amazing results.
